My Love For Mineral Makeup!

By now, I'm sure you all must know how much I love and enjoy using Natural and Organic beauty products but most importantly,  I love the fact that taking this route has allowed me to continually feed my skin with ingredients in their most potent and beneficial form.   And I'm happy to report that the results are very promising  in both my skin and hair. Also, I am very diligent with my make-up choices making sure they are free of synthetic chemicals and other harsh ingredients.  Although I must admit that the latter was somewhat challenging in terms of sourcing  safer alternatives. On that note, It was about six years ago when I was introduced to Mineral make-up (MMU)  by one of my aunts and she was kind enough to send me a few full jars from her personal stash. Mind you, I was super excited to give it a go since I had seen this very product range advertised on television and was planning on placing an online order. I thought this was 'the' perfect alternative to replace my toxic laden liquid foundation. And besides, it was produced by one of the leading Mineral make-up companies at that time, however, to my disappointment my skin did not tolerate this formula very well. Suffice to say,  it gave me an itch from hell and besides I looked hideous - face appeared super shiny and very mask-like.  Later on I discovered  that this was due to the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride.  This was definitely not the look I was after however,  In the back of my mind, I wasn't ready to give up on my quest to source a natural alternative to my toxic liquid foundation and it's a good thing I didn't.  After doing a bit of research I went on to sample products from various mineral make-up companies and although I didn't experience the above adverse reaction, the formulas still didn't meet my specific needs.  And basically, it's from this point I have progressed into learning how to formulate my own.  And I have been happily wearing my own foundation for the past two years.  There's no better satisfaction than creating a product that works for your own specific skin profile needs.

Mineral makeup gives me that natural glow - that perfect skin so to speak! And I love that  I don't need to spend hours in front of the mirror trying to cover my imperfections but best of all It renders some natural sun protection which is awesome.  I know there's a lot of controversy surrounding the safety use of mineral make-up  since the majority of formulas are available in mostly powdered form;  but so does loose dusting powder right?  So here goes my opinion on this: There are many techniques one can use to minimize the particles getting every where. I may need to cover this in an entire post by itself but briefly, you may apply wet by spritzing a flat top brush, dip into the minerals then apply to your face or you can also mix a miniscule amount with your favorite moisturize to create a tinted moisturizer. Do you see the versatility in using mineral makeup?

So without further introduction, here's a chart with the blushes and bronzers I've created to date.  At a later time, I will be sharing more MIY (make-it-yourself) photos with you! It takes a while to photograph each and every color so do bare with me.

And here are my MIY Bronzers pictured below:

Who knew my love for mineral makeup would lead me in this direction of formulating my own? All I can say, it's a truly satisfying feeling!

Hi there-

I love mineral makeup too. I met Lisa over at Style Essentials. She sent me a few samples of her mineral makeup line Dash Minerals. My skin tolerates the product line well and I too have sensitive skin.

Your MIY photos are pretty good. Did you come up with the names of the products yourself? Very creative names.

By the way, just a suggestion, would you be open to allowing people to post comments with a link back to their blogs? It helps to provide some exposure to related blogs.

Hi Michelle,

I'm glad your skin is tolerating Lisa's Minerals. I know how challenging it can be to find products that work for a specific skin profile.

I had a lot of fun making my own and yes, I did come up the names myself. It better than assigning numbers to them - 1, 2, 3 etc. This is much nicer:)

About the linking back to people's blogs. If I'm not mistaken, it's already set up that way. Try clicking on your name and you'll see that it takes you to a blogger profile. Let me know what you see?

And thanks a bunch for stopping by:-)

Hi there-

Yes I do like that you used named rather than numbers. It adds some personality :-) Perhaps I'll try your line too when I need to restock!

The way you have linking set up is to go to a blogger profile but what if a person doesn't use blogger? For example, used to use Blogger but now I self host my blog. I think you'll get more comments if you make so that people enter their name that can link to a website. I just notice that around the web. Sites that can enter a person's name and their website url tend to get more replies. Let me know what you think.

I'm following your blog now :-) Mine is located at http://freshradiantskin.com/blog

Hi Michelle,

I finally figured it out. I needed to set it for 'anyone' to comment. I even did a test comment - now works. Yay! And thanks so much for the suggestion. You rock!

Oh, my minerals are not for sale - at least not yet. If I decide to do so, I'll update with a blog post.

I'm now following both of your blogs:) Keep up the good work. You're such an inspiration - don't know how you manage to do so much. God Bless!

Thanks Michelle! You need to put your minerals up for sale girl. Share the goodness with the rest of us.

And thank you for the comment. I slide things in here and there but some day I'd like to run my business full time from home so I'll have more time to spend with my kids (who will probably be adults by then lol)

Hey Mich, I appreciate your encouraging words. Eventually, I may offer my minerals and more of my DIY stuff. I'm sure you know how time consuming it can be to set up a home based biz, right? Besides, I have two boys that take up a lot of my time. I know very well what you mean about spending more time with your children. Girl, they grow up so fast, don't they? So let's embrace every moment while we can:-) Hope you're enjoying your weekend.
