Update!

Hi all,

I would like to take this moment to update you on a few things.  Firstly,  kindly pardon my lack of postings. The month of August has been somewhat rough for us - my father-in-law fell ill and recently passed away.  We're still trying to absorb it all and move on with our lives.  If you've lost a loved one, then you must know that it is by no means that easy to turn on a switch in terms of resuming things to normal. He was such a quiet, humble and hard working man. Overall, he was greatly admired and loved and will forever live on in our hearts.   I have also lost my only sister 8 years ago and it still hurts.  She was only 21 years old.  This is why I feel so strongly to live every day well, and with love. To me, every passing moment spent in the company of my family and good friends is considered a special blessing.  I feel it's so important to fill the air with love and tell those around us how much they are loved.  Life is too short not to do so. Won't you say? 

On a different note, today marks the first day of school for my eldest son who commenced class as a Grade 1 student and tomorrow my youngest son starts Junior Kindergarten.  Although I'm happy that they both will be in school full-day, it's also a feeling of mixed emotions. My babies are growing up so fast.  *pouts* The good part: I am going to invest more time into updating my blog amongst other things:-)

The Story of Perfume

As always, it's never a frantic wait for my orders from Miessence simply because they do extremely well at shipping out orders promptly -- placed my order on Sept. 11th. and it arrived on the 14th. I will say it's a good thing I was at home when the courier  driver came knocking on my door.  Why do I say that? Well to say the least, my boys kept repeatedly asking if I had gotten their favorite toothpaste.  So on that note, they would have been upset if we had missed this delivery. It makes me so happy that my boys, ages 5 and 3 years old are already loving the feel and good results from using Organic products.  They haven't grasped the real reason behind us boycotting conventional products, but sure enough they will at some point.  They are so hooked on the Miessence Skin Care products -- toothpaste being their absolute favorite. Even at this tender age, they have a solid routine of their own -- in no particular order slathers on the Miessence Tropicana Body Milk or Intensive Body Cream and Tahitian Breeze Deodorant. I wouldn't go into details with their haircare regimen -- maybe another post but it's quite similar to skin and body care.  It's just fun to watch 'em in action. I'm sure if mom isn't around to oversee this daily routine they might resort to emptying an entire bottle of lotion over their little bodies........LOL

Natural, Organic and Certified Organic.

In this video Narelle Chenery (One Group's Director of Research and Development) discusses the definition of Natural, Organic and Certified Organic.





Again, the only way for us to decipher if a product is really Natural, Organic or Certified Organic is to read the list of ingredients on the label. It is a legal requirement for companies to list ingredients on skin care products in descending order of their quantity. A good rule of thumb is to divide the ingredients list into thirds -- the top third usually contain 90-95% of the product, the middle third usually contains 5-8% and the bottom third, 1-3%. This is another helpful rule to help you understand how Natural or Organic that specific product really is.

Notice the last point states Apricot Oil at 2.5% and it's number 3 on the list? Since manufacturers are required to list ingredients in descending order this means everything AFTER Apricot Oil makes up LESS than 2.5% by volume. So about 90% of the product is basically water and Isopropyl Palmitate, Isopropyl Palmitate, is derived from Isoprypyl Alcohol, synthetic alcohol, and Palmitic Acid, a fatty acid from palm oil. It is known to cause skin irritations and dermatitis and also have comodogenic(clog pores) properties.

Numbers 4,5 and 6 are all produced by chemical reactions between various fatty acids and glycerol (synthetic glycerine). They also have shown to cause allergies and dermatitis.

Number 7 is a symntetic emulsifier that may contain dangerous levels of ethylene oxide and dioxane, both known carcinogens.

Numbers 8-15 are natural ingredients used in very small amounts that may have been grown using pesticides and herbicides.

Number 16 may be natural or synthetic ans has been shown to cause eczema.

Number 17 is otherwise known as Caustic Soda and is extremely alkaline and corrosive.

Number 18 -- sorbic acid was once isolated from the mountain ash berry, but is now chemically synthesises and is a toxic preservative.

Number 19 is a synthetic Vitamin E.

Number 20-22 are toxic and allergenic perservatives.

Number 23 -- Probably synthetic and may contain phthalates and have been linkd to birth defects.

Number 24 -- Synthetic colors that could be potentially carcinogenic.

In my humble opinion it all comes down to one's choice and personally i'm happy with the choice i have made choosing Certified Organics. I can safely pronounce all the ingredients in my Organic and Certified range without biting my tongue. Miessence's Shape Hair Styling Gel -- Mini Review!

I have had several requests for a review of this product however, I prefer to use a product for a few months at least before making any recommendations.  That being said, I am totally pleased with the performance of this product.  It's very lightweight and perfect for keeping my new hair at bay, also referred to as fly-aways.  I tend to get a lot especially at my hairline and this Styling Gel works awesome at calming them without appearing  like I have used a ton of product.  I always reach for this formula to create classic hair updos and although it's lightweight it holds up well.

Please note, this isn't the typical super hold formula like you would find in Drug Stores, mainly because it is formulated with nourishing ingredients minus the synthetics.

Finally, here is a Hair Styling Gel that is actually good for your hair and scalp and also provides a medium hold and will not dry out the hair. Organic Rosehip Seed Oil is key in this formula for keeping hair moisturized -- panthenol also adds to this benefit!
