Over this past weekend I was so thrilled to discover this somewhat new range of Certified Organic Baby food. My children somehow were fascinated with the baby products as we walked through the isle at our local Drug Store and that's how this range caught my eyes.
I'm positive that many Canadian moms will share my excitement mainly because it's the first range of Certified Organic baby food -- free of pesticides, herbicides, preservatives, artificial flavours and colors. Oh, how I wished such a range existed back when I had my babies. It's always a good thing to be presented with options like Organic versus Commercial foods. Instead, I found myself at that time traveling from store to store to hunt for such certified foods.
Their range consists of Baby Formula which is available in two forms -- Lactose and Soy based. Babies who are lactose intolerant will surely benefit from the latter and still receive the benefits of an Organic Formula. In addition, they have made available, Vegetables & Fruit (jarred), Cereal, Juices, Teething Biscuits and a variety of Fruit Friends.
Visit their site for product specifics and their where to buy list.
Babies are precious and deserve a complete Organic diet!
My Organic Baby Certified Organic -- Baby Food Range
I felt first joyous. I felt that which joy is made of, and I realized that Joy itself must have been the impelling force, that which was before we were there, and that somehow Joy was in every ingredient of our making. When the world was an ooze without any shape or direction, there must have been this force of Joy that prevailed everywhere and that was reaching out to express itself.
People have indulged in the pleasurable ritual of perfuming themselves with aromatic flower blends for thousands of years. Up until the 1900s scents were simple and uncomplicated, like rose and lavender water distilled from out of the garden. Technology changed all that in the 20th century, submerging pure, unadulterated botanical ingredients under an avalanche of chemical impostors. The perfume boom began when Jacques Guerlain created Shalimar in 1925, and Francois Coty launched his fragrances, Grasse, Chypre de Coty, and La Rose Jacqueminot. Scientific advances during WWII enabled the creation of even more complex chemical perfume classics like Opium, Chanel No. 5, and 4711.
When Charles Revson created Charlie for Revlon, women began buying perfume for themselves. Cosmetic counters everywhere were flooded with a glut of synthetic perfumes created by multinationals and their imitators. From there the industry has flourished. And in fact, in the weeks leading up to Christmas this year, it is expected that a bottle of Chanel No.5 perfume will sell every 30 seconds around the globe! The good news is that consumers are growing more discerning. And with increasing alarms over the impact of synthetic perfumes on the health of both people and the planet, there is now a move towards boutique or niche scents, perfume produced in small quantities by traditionally trained artisans. Often billed as 'natural', many of these perfumes still contain potentially harmful synthetic ingredients.

It is a known fact that most conventional children's products contain a number of potentially carcinogenic ingredients such as Parabens, Talc, Phthalates and Formaldehyde to name a few, many of which are not even listed as such but in their abbreviated forms. Phthalates for example is mostly disguised as DBP, pronounced (di-n-butyl phthalate), DEP (diethyl phthalate), DMP (dimethyl phthalate), DEHP (di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate or Bis-2-ethylhexyl phthalate), and BzBP (benzylbutyl phthalate). Phthalates are primarily found in PVC plastic items and are suspected to cause cancer, and could also be damaging to organs such as the liver and kidneys -- also interferes with the development of the female's reproductive organs and even mimics the hormone estrogen in the body yet many companies continue to add this to their formulas. Baffling right? Parabens on the other hand are normally listed as Methylparaben, Propylparaben or Butylparaben. Do keep an eye out for these chemical nasties.
Moms, this is my personal appeal to all of you – reserve some time to go through the labels of your current products used on both yourselves and children on an everyday basis. You’ll be astounded at your findings with all the poisons stirred into these formulas. I say, "enough is enough".
Just after the birth of my eldest, I decided to boycott these very same poisonous formulas. Together we can eliminate this once and for all -- NO more toxins in our homes! For too long, these companies have continued to poison us through their slick marketing actions; and it's time for you to closely examine these products you innocently put on your bodies. Also be on the lookout for products labeled as Organic or Natural -- make sure you can pronounce each ingredient listed on the label before making that purchase. Always look for the Organic certification seal too to verify authentic claims. There is no need for us to innocently compromise our health especially since there are safer alternatives available on the market today. Here’s an awesome tool to check the rating of your current products and while you’re at it, go ahead and research those ingredients.
Use this education to protect yourself and family from the chemically laden products out there. You must be an advocate for your own health!
I truly believe after you’ve taken the time to watch this video, you will go out and immediately switch to completely safer alternatives. Ever so often we tend to keep a watchful eyes on our organs and aiming to look our best but unintentionally neglects our skin. The latter being the largest organ does deserve some tender loving care especially since it absorbs every ingredient we put on it which then travels to our blood stream; making it so vital to be in acknowledgment of this subject.
After watching this video I knew it was imperative to share this message with you. It certainly breaks my heart at the fact that the unborn enters the world with these poisons in their blood. Greenpeace has also published a very informational article on the subject, "poisoning the unborn". It's definitely worth a few minutes of your time. Research continues to reveal many children's products with traces of these harmful chemicals -- sad but true. Curious to learn if chemicals can turn your genes off and on? Read about it here. Another awesome article about toxins and your health can be accessed here.
