Raw Homemade Coconut Milk

Please note: This is one of my dated posts initially shared on one of my older blogs just over one year ago. I thought it may be useful for those of you who are striving to avoid the dreaded toxin, BPA.

Making my own fresh homemade coconut milk is just one of the ways for avoiding BPA and preservatives in my food. As a matter of fact, when i was growing up, canned foods weren't so accessible as it is in our present day while fresh fruits, veggies and poultry were displayed everywhere in our local markets. I miss those days, however, by just making some small changes we can avoid most canned foods.

To make your own coconut milk is super simple and does not require an actual recipe. Simply crack open one or a few coconuts and using a sharp tool (i used a knife) simply place between the outer shell and meaty part of the coconut and it should easily pull apart. Although it's not necessary to remove the outer (brown) skin, you can if you wish, then cut up into small pieces and transfer to a blender. Then fill with water covering the coconut and blend away. Simply strain and transfer the fresh milk to preferably to an ice cube tray and store in the freezer. I find it's easier to use when stored in a container such as the cube tray.

Hope this post has inspired you to make you own coconut milk.

Wishing you all great health.

Wow. As easy as making almond milk (except that darn outer shell, hard to break those!)
I love coconut milk, so cool that I can make it. Don't know why it hadn't occurred to me.
Thanks Michelle!

It's easy peasy. Hubby cracks it open. He uses a heavy object. I believe it's the metal part from one of his dumbbells. I can just see you LOL

I use coconut milk in soups, curries and desserts. Yum!
